Name admin Views 1 Datetime 25-05-23 12:09On May 13, 2025, the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and the Korea Institute for the Advancement of Technology (KIAT) co-hosted a Technology Commercialization Policy Roundtable at the Korea Technology Center in Yeoksam-dong, Seoul. The event was organized to gather voices from the field of technology transfer and commercialization and to discuss strategic policy directions aimed at building a demand-driven ecosystem.
The roundtable was attended by over 20 key stakeholders from industry, academia, research institutions, and government, including KIPO Commissioner Kim Wan-ki and KIAT President Min Byung-joo. The session featured an overview of KIAT’s major programs, shared outcomes of recent technology transfer cases, and an open discussion on field-level challenges and potential regulatory improvements. Several private technology commercialization agencies, including SYP Co., Ltd., participated in the event and contributed on-the-ground insights.
Mr. Sungwook Hong, CEO of SYP, emphasized the importance of aligning commercialization efforts with the real needs of demand-side companies and highlighted the need for strategic policy support to enhance market-driven technology transfer.
A KIPO official remarked, “In the era of digital transformation, it is essential for the public and private sectors to collaboratively build an innovation ecosystem that facilitates the smooth transition of outstanding public R&D results into private sector applications.”
This roundtable served as a valuable platform for expanding practical communication between policy authorities and commercialization stakeholders, and laid the groundwork for strengthened future cooperation.
